How do I switch off automatic checking in my email program?

Answer

The following are instructions for the more common email programs:

Windows Live Mail
  1. Click the Menus button, (beside the help question mark button) and click Options
  2. Uncheck, Check for new messages every, XX mins and click OK.
Windows Mail
  1. Click, Tools>>Options
  2. Uncheck, Check for new messages every XX mins and click OK.
Outlook Express
  1. Select Tools > Options from the main menu.
  2. Deselect the options labeled Send and receive messages at startup and Check for new messages every ( ) minute(s).
IncrediMail
  1. Select Tools > Options from the main menu.
  2. Deselect the options labeled Send and receive messages at startup and Check for new messages every ( ) minute(s).
Outlook
  1. Select Tools > Options from the main menu.
  2. Select the Mail Setup tab and click Send/Receive.
  3. Deselect Schedule an automatic send and receive every ( ) minutes checkbox.
Thunderbird
  1. Select Tools > Account Settings from the Thunderbird main menu.
  2. Click the Server Settings section.
  3. Deselect the option labeled Check for new messages every ( ) minutes.
Eudora
  1. Select Tools > Options from the main menu.
